RUSSO
WINS IHRA TORONTO - RUNS A 5.99! |
| |

|
 |
September
9th at the IHRA Canadian Nationals John Russo put his new Vanishing Point Race Cars
68 Firebird to the test and it passed with flying colors. Rumor has it that the
cracks in the pit asphalt were growing rapidly when this beast was out cracking
off a 5.99 @ 239.06 mph ground shaking pass during qualifying!
Due
to rain and track problems IHRA reduced the eliminations down to an 1/8th mile,
so that was the end of the 5 second passes for the event. Moving on to eliminations
Russo faced Carl Spiering in the Pro Modified final round and defeated him easily
with a 3.962@189.90 to Spiering's tire shaking 6.277. This win is Russo's first
in IHRA Pro Modified. A
big atta boy to Mr. Russo from the folks at Santhuff Engineering... Congratulations
on your first IHRA Pro Modified win and that bad to the bone 5 second pass! Photo

the call.
In

Doug Riesterer also made some waves at Norwalk with a 4.003@181.15 blast, the
quickest nitrous pass which landed him #1 qualifer. Congratulations

CUSTOMERS PACK 1 - 2 PUNCH AT THE ROCK |

|
 |
At IHRA's
Spring Nationals in Rockingham on April 22nd Scott Cannon and Kenny Lang both
made it to the final round of eliminations. Cannon was flying in his 68
Firebird Pro Mod during the event, he qualified #1 Saturday with a best of 5.992@237,
backed it up with a 5.998@235.51 and put down a 6.01 the last round of
qualifying on Sunday making him clearly the top dog going into eliminations.
Scott
continued his dominance throughout eliminations whipping out a 6.01 against Harold
Martin's tire shaking 13.58, came back and showed Jim Halsey the trailer with
a 6.047 and got a bye run from Steve Vick who couldn't make the call. Lang
was chewing through the pack at the same time defeating Hoover, Halsey and Castellana
before meeting up with Cannon in the final round. In the end Cannon's amazingly
consistent performance got him a clear win over Lang with a 6.02@236.17 vs Lang's
7.669@124.66 aborted pass. Congratulations to both competitors on a clearly successful
weekend of racing from Santhuff Engineering! Photo

HOOVER
TAKES HOME WIN AT IHRA TEXAS NATIONALS |
| |
|
| Santhuff
customer Ed Hoover and crew didn't know what they were getting into when they
arrived at the gates during IHRA's Texas Nationals at San Antonio Raceway, but
they sure drove out those gates happy. Track
officials discovered problems with the track in the right lane after Fridays qualifying
which required them to put together an all night asphalt resurfacing project to
repair the damage. Eventually IHRA officials had to limit the race to 1/8th mile
for safety, the first time since 1974. Ed
didn't let the change affect their teams game plan, they dialed the car in and
blasted right through the pack with a performance that would make a bracket racer
jealous. Hoover cleanly defeated Mike Castellana, Kenny Lang and Quain Stott in
the semifinal round. In the final round Hoover went up against Danny Rowe who
he easily defeated with a 4.041@183.39 to Rowe's aborted 4.597@120.17 pass. Santhuff
Engineering would like to congratulate Mr. Hoover and team on their win and outstandingly
consistent performance at this race. We
would also like to congratulate customer Ray Commisso on qualifying #1 with a
3.962@188.41 in his 67 Camaro. It appears all that off season testing has begun
to pay off!

CARPENTER WINS HOUSTON
ADRL PRO NITROUS |
| |

|
 |
Charlie Carpenter
is off to a good start this season with his first win of the season at the ADRL
Dragpalooza III on March 3rd. Carpenter had his work cut out for him as he made
his way through the tough ladder. He worked his way past Radford, Hancock and
Pilcher on his way to the final round were he lined up against Tom Myers. Myers
had just KO'd Shannon Jenkins who had already laid down one of the two 3 second
passes at the event, but Myer's put the new GTO on the trailer. In the final round
luck was on Carpenter's side as Myers was not able to stage handing him the win.
Carpenter's performance proves consistency and hard work wins rounds. Congratulations
Charlie on your well deserved win! Santhuff
Engineering would also like to congratulate Doug Riesterer on cracking the 3 second
barrier at the same race. Doug laid down a 3.99@178 with a 2.62 330' and a .988
60' in the first round of eliminations! Remember that's with a 10 year old 706,
that's what you call getting it done. The Santhuff gang was glad to see the "Home
Built Hot Rod" put down the number!

JUSTIN LAMB RUNNERS
UP FIRST TIME OUT |
| |

|
 |
Justin Lamb
tried out his new 07 Cobalt for the first time at the NHRA Division 7 National
Open in his hometown of Las Vegas January 28th. Now everyone knows that you should
be ready to spend some time sorting out a brand new car, right? Not this time...
Justin found out quickly how good the car was when he runnered up in SS/BS class
right out of the gate. That
sounds pretty good till you learn that this car was rolled out of the trailer
and with NO CHASSIS ADJUSTMENTS AT ALL ran a tenth faster than his best time in
the previous chassis! Wow - now that's a clear testament to the quality construction
and talent of his chassis builder, Darren Breaud of B & B Fabrication in Hohenwald,
Tennessee. Look for more from this car as they say she's got at least another
tenth in her yet to be unleashed... Congratulations
Justin and Darren on the new car, looks like it's going to be a great season!

SANTHUFF
SPOTLIGHT - DOUG RIESTERER |
| | |
| Texas
Outlaw Racer Doug Riesterer is one of our favorite examples that hard work and
lots of thinking can still rival megadollar spending. At ADRL's Dragstock III
he qualified #1 with a 4.007 and instantly got the undivided attention of every
Pro Mod team in the country. It wasn't that he made the fastest pass ever, other
Nitrous Pro-Mod's have been in the high 3's and low low 4's... it's not like it
was a new record, it's what this man achieved with the limited equipment he had
to work with that shocked everyone.
Doug
ran that ET (which wasn't his first time in the low 4.0's) with a 4 year old,
wet sump, 4.840 based 706 on only TWO stages AND this is a car he built himself
based on a Tim McAmis Kit! In
addition, Mr. Riesterer set the TOPMA low ET record in 2006 with a 4.05 during
the August 26 race at Redline and he was featured in the December 2006 RPM Magazine.
There is no doubt that many will be watching this man's racing program very closely
in 2007 as he continues to pursue his dream. Competitors had better watch out
next year...he's talking about putting a third stage on ol' Blue!
Everyone here at Santuff Engineering would like to congratulate Doug on a job
well done, we're quite proud to be a part of his racing success. Photo

ZAPPIA
RESETS WORLD DOORSLAMMER RECORD |
| |

|
 |
[12-2-06
- Perth Motorplex] John Zappia sent a message heard round the world at the 2006
Goldenstates Championships in Australia with two stunning 5-second passes last
weekend.
The first elimination pass of the night saw Zap lay down a pedaling 6.320@235
as Zap’s Rat headed right on launch. A tire change and fine-tuning of the Santhuff
suspension system was enough to prepare the car for the next run. Launching straight
the car ran a 5.963@235.5 in the second qualifier, resetting his own World Record
and the first stage of the ANDRA Top Doorslammer national record. Spurred
on by a $5,000 bonus challenge for another 5 second run by his sponsor, Striker
Crushing and Screening, he stunned the crowd during the third qualifying pass
with a 5.922@233.4 making drag racing history again. “The
first five tonight was achieved in the second half of the track, but we stepped
up the car for the last qualifier and achieved our first sub 1.0 second 60ft time
with a .997 launch. The car was really quick to half-track, but nosed over in
third gear with the front universal joint failing and smashing the rear of the
B & J Transmission apart - the mph was down to 233 . This car is amazing, and
I can see it going even quicker” said an elated Zap. Congratulations
to John and his Team for another amazing record breaking performance, we're proud
to be a part of your success! Photo

ZAPPIA
RUNS ANOTHER 5! |
| |

|
 |
On November 18th, 2006 at the Perth Motorplex Austrialia's John Zappia became
the first Doorslamer Racer in history to ever run two 5 second passes in legal
race setup. Zappia ran his second pass of 5.993@238.73 during evening testing
where they were gearing up for the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship in Perth
on December 1-2.
The
team was testing their new TFX engine package and after some tuning difficulties
switched to their tried and true Walt Austin engine when they busted out the 5
second run. Several other changes in the car incuding some new struts which worked
out well... John said
- "We were also very happy with the new adjustable front struts from Santhuff,
as the front ended up lighter and handled better on the 5 second run. These cars
are very finely tuned with regard to weight, and the distribution of that weight
in the car is important."
Congratulations John and the Zappa Racing Team, we're very happy we could be part
of your record breaking combination and wish you the best of luck at the upcoming
Golden State Championships! Photo

ULSCH/MOBLEY
WIN ORLANDO WORLD STREET NATIONALS |
| |
|
| Gil
Mobley and Chuck Ulsch took home the win in Outlaw 10.5 at the prestigious Orlando
World Street Nationals with their 2002 Vanishing Point built Camaro. The team
played their cards perfectly, putting just enough power down to generate consistent
high 6 second passes but not getting greedy and overpowering the track. They not
only waded through a field of the baddest Outlaw 10.5 cars in the country, but
they did it consistantly with a NITROUS powered car in a race where the Turbo
powered cars were favored to win.
Mobley
also previously won Outlaw 10.5 at the Shakedown at E-Town where he reset the
world record for Nitrous Powered Outlaw 10.5 cars at 6.80@207. Congratulations
to Gil & Chuck for a spectacular month of wins and record setting! Photo

JOSH
HERNANDEZ SETS FIRST IHRA LEGAL 5 SECOND PASS! |
|
|

|
 |
Josh
Hernadez has become the first to run a 5 second IHRA legal pass in history. Hernandez
set the new record of 5.990@236.80 during the second round of eliminations in
Rockingham, North Carolina. The incrementals for the pass were .996 at the 60',
2.608 330', 3.928 1/8th and 5.046 1000'. This pass was also the quickest ever
IHRA Pro Mod side by side pass with Tony Pontieri in the other lane running a
6.048@234.49! There
have only been 2 other Doorslammers in the 5 second zone before him, John Zappia
went 5.967@241.97 on Sept. 5th, 2005 in Australia and Mitch Stott went 5.985@231.42
in Outlaw Pro Mod Feb. 14th 2003. There
is at least one thing these cars and records have in common... Every
5 second pass in Pro Mod History has been on Santhuff Shocks. Congratulations
to Josh and the entire Tommy Lipar Racing Team on your new IHRA Record!

QUAIN
STOTT CAPTURES IHRA 2006 CHAMPIONSHIP |
| |

|
 |
The Rockingham
IHRA race is very likely a day Quain Stott will never forget... First
of all he captured the IHRA Pro Modified points battle which was extremely close
between him and 5 other teams. Not qualifying would have given the championship
to one of the others, and the field had 35 cars trying to qualify for a 16 car
field, talk about pressure! To add fuel to the fire, it was the fastest field
in IHRA history, the bump was a crazy 6.016 anchored by Danny Rowe. So the pressure
was on for everyone just to make the cut, but Stott pulled it off qualifying 13th.
In
eliminations Stott defeated Troy Critchley in round 1, but lost to Russo in the
quarterfinals. At the same time, Scotty Cannon Jr. did him a big favor and knocked
out Danny Rowe from eliminations, allowing Stott to fulfill an 11 year long dream
of winning the championship. To cap off an already unforgettable day, Stott asked
his Team Manager, Cynthia to marry him just after winning the title. Now that's
one heck of a day in anyone's book! Congratulations Quain, Cynthia and your team
on a great year filled with success! Photos

SCOTTY
CANNON JR. WINS IHRA WORLD FINALS |
| |

|
 |
Scotty Cannon
Jr. won his first IHRA Pro Modified event at Rockingham. He defeated Josh Hernandez
7.619@161.75 with a 6.537@207.85 in the quarterfinals, then defeated a fouling
Raymond Commisso with a 6.051@226.16. Not
only is his first win a great achievement, but the Cannons did it on the back
of three week thrash to rebuild the car after a qualifying accident in San Antonio.
Thanks to a lot of hard work by the Cannon team, Vanishing Point Race Cars, and
others they were able to get the car back together and win a race that was one
of the fastest in the history books! Look
for more to come from Scotty Cannon Jr. in the near future!

JOHN
RUSSO QUALIFYS #1 AT IHRA WORLD FINALS |

|
| John
Russo was the #1 Qualifier during the IHRA World Finals and for a brief time,
he held the IHRA Pro Modified Record with a 6.012@234.09 which was reset the next
day by Josh Hernadez. John got to the semi finals in the toughest field in IHRA
history, no easy feat at all. Now that he's known the feeling of owning the record
even for just a while, you can bet John will be working hard to take it back.
Congratulations John!

Carolina's Quain Stott defeated hometown Racer Kenny Lang in the final round of
IHRA Pro Modified competition in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Stott and Lang both
fought through a very tough 16 car field to make their way to the final round.
Lang cut a little better light than Stott (.041/.067), but not quick enough to
prevent Stott from overtaking him at the 660 mark with a 6.271@228.19 to Lang's
6.323@227.00. Stott now has moved up to #2 in IHRA Pro Modified points trailing
